One Health

The LSU SVM is dedicated to the One Health initiative. Our faculty, staff and students work together with other universities, government agencies and private organizations to improve the lives and health of both people and animals.

One Health is the integrative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment. Together, the three make up the One Health triad, and the health of each is inextricably connected to the others.

One Health recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. The goal of One Health is to encourage the collaborative efforts of multiple disciplines-working locally, nationally, and globally-to achieve the best health for people, animals, and our environment.

A One Health approach is important because 6 out of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spread from animals.
