When does this year’s show begin?

The show opens on with a reception on March 19, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. The show will then be open during regular LSU SVM Library Hours through April 18, 2016.

 

Who is invited to the Opening Reception?

Everyone – free and open to the public

 

What time is the Opening Reception?

6 p.m. in the SVM Library

 

When does the art show end?

The show runs through April 18 during regular library hours.

 

When can I come see the show? 

From the time of the Opening Reception, you can visit whenever the SVM Library is open. Click here for hours or call the front desk 225-578-9800.

 

When will the ribbons be awarded?

About 30 minutes before the Opening Reception

 

How many entries did you get his year?

For the 2016 show, 75 of the 381 entries were from 202 artists from 38 states, Israel and Canada.

 

How many entries did you get last year? 

For the 2014 show, 75 of 426 entries from 35 states were accepted.  We had entries from the US and Canada.

 

Can I take pictures of the show?

You cannot take pictures of individual pieces. There will be an online gallery of all the selected pieces on the show’s website the week after the Opening Reception.

 

Are there prizes? 

Best of show: $1000

Judge’s award: $100 (there are 5 of these)

Honorable Mention: no cash, a ribbon (there are 10 of these)

People’s Choice award: $100

 

When will the People’s Choice award be decided and announced?

The last week of the show.

 

When will the pictures be up on the website? 

The week after the opening reception.

 

What is the theme of the art show?

There is no specific theme.  The show is a celebration of animals as demonstrated in a variety of media.

 

Are fish and insects considered animals?

Yes

 

Can there be a person in the piece with the animal(s)? 

Yes

 

Who decides the prices?

The artist decides the sale price keeping in mind the show receives a 20% commission. 

 

What does the judge see when selecting what will be in the show?

The judge is given the submitted image, a description of the media and the title of the piece. The judge never sees any information about the artist until after ribbons are awarded.

 

How can I support the Exhibition?

By attending the Opening Reception and spreading the word about the show.  Any financial support can be donated through a check made out to LSU Foundation with “Animals in Art Show” in the memo line.
