Job Description: Veterinary Intern

Carolina Veterinary Specialists Greensboro, NC June 19, 2017 through June 30, 2018 The Carolina Veterinary Specialists Referral Animal Hospital is a 24-hour, full service referral hospital located in Greensboro, North Carolina. In addition to referral services in internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, behavior, radiology, and oncology, services are also provided in emergency medicine and critical care.  CVS is seeking a veterinary intern for the 2017-2018 year.

The interns will rotate through medicine, surgery, and emergency services and can choose elective rotations in ophthalmology, radiology, and oncology. There is also the potential for exposure to behavior medicine with our board-certified behaviorist. Our interns will work closely with specialists on referral cases as well as have primary case care. Our interns may learn to place chest tubes, perform surgical approaches, complete a thorough exploration of the abdomen and chest, and develop excellent tissue handling skills. In addition, our interns may learn to operate endoscopes, collect biopsies and place feeding tubes. We reward our interns who show us clinical aptitude and desire to learn with more and more responsibility and freedom. While on the emergency rotation, the interns will be under the direct supervision of an experienced senior clinician. The emergency rotation allows the intern to be the primary surgeon (with close supervision from the primary emergency clinician) for a number of surgeries including C-section, gastrotomy, GDV/gastropexy, cystotomy, and splenectomy.
