Veterinary Medical Center is a busy, small animal hospital established in Murray, Kentucky in 1991 by Jeannine Buchanan DVM. We provide quality medical, surgical, and dental services, and strive to create a warm, friendly atmosphere. We see a wide variety of cases and work-ups and have a large surgical case load. We perform a full range of soft tissue surgeries. Orthopedic surgeries include fracture repair with bone plating and external fixator equipment. Stifle correction surgeries include lateral suture, MPL corrections and TPLO. Since we do a lot of work for a local shelter and rescue center, we are able to offer a great opportunity for students to hone one’s surgical skills.
Our staff is warm, friendly and caring thereby creating a very pleasant working environment.
Our hospital has an Idexx digital radiography, sono-site ultrasound, Idexx in-house laboratory equipment, therapeutic laser, tonopen, and an im3 dental machine station. We utilize Cornerstone management software for electronic record keeping.
The clinic offers in-hospital living arrangements for students while on internship. Russellville is located one hour north of Nashville, TN.

Description The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
The Assistant Professor of Veterinary Science (Non -tenure Track), serve as an advisor, and teach in the College of Agriculture, Food Science, and Sustainable Systems (CAFSSS) Veterinary Technology degree programs and will provide assistance in Extension programs related to small ruminant health issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teach at least 2 classes each semester in the Veterinary Technology degree programs.
Responsibilities include coursework development and approval through appropriate channels.
2. Assist in providing statewide Extension in small ruminant education.
3. Bring regional and national exposure to the Kentucky State University College of
Agriculture, Food Science, and Sustainable Systems through scholarly publications, presentations, and securing grant funding.
4. Facilitate the Veterinary Technology degree programs at Kentucky State University, including curriculum development and program accreditation through the American Veterinary Medical Association.
5. Develop partnerships with collaborating entities, including the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
6. Assist with other College functions as necessary.
7. Other job related duties as required.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and license in good standing to practice in the state of Kentucky.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES EQUIRED:
Dedication to continuing education, professionalism, and promotion of Veterinary Technology within the local and national veterinary community.
Competence with using and integrating available technology in the classroom.
