Internship at Tufts Ambulatory Service

The Tufts Ambulatory Service at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for an internship position in large animal ambulatory medicine. Tufts Ambulatory Service is a ten-doctor practice located in Woodstock CT and is a primary clinical and teaching unit of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in North Grafton, MA. Woodstock, CT is in the northeast "quiet corner" of Connecticut, a nice rural setting with a quick easy commute into major cities. The bovine practice focuses on dairy production medicine and primary care for both beef and dairy cattle. The equine practice focuses on preventative medicine, lameness, field surgery and reproduction. There is also a sizable case load in small ruminants and camelids to make the intern a well-rounded large animal ambulatory practitioner.

The internship will provide the new graduate with supportive mentorship and autonomy to develop competence and confidence with routine and emergency procedures common to large animal ambulatory practice. Tufts Ambulatory Service is a well-equipped clinic with portable digital radiography, portable endoscopy, portable ultrasound, power float, therapeutic laser and in-house chemistry. We will provide hands-on training and supervision with all techniques, including transrectal ultrasound, record analysis using DairyComp305, embryo production in cattle and small ruminants and on-farm investigation of herd wide issues.

The intern will share on-call responsibilities in rotation with the faculty and back-up will always be available if needed. The intern will share in the practice's teaching of veterinary students. Participation in monthly didactic rounds with the Tufts Ambulatory Service is mandatory. The intern will also be strongly encouraged to participate in a research or independent study project.

Requirements of the internship are DVM or equivalent and the ability to become licensed in Connecticut and Rhode Island licensure. The candidate will also be expected to become USDA accredited as soon as possible. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have demonstrated an eagerness to work in the large animal field.

This is a one-year position beginning June 18, 2018. Applications are due October 2, 2017 and notifications will be sent by November 15, 2017. Applicants should email a letter of intent, current curriculum vitae, three letters of professional reference and official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to Dr. Julia Wilkinson, Clinical Assistant Professor and Intern Director, Department of Environmental and Population Health. We strongly encourage interested applicants to visit the practice or do an externship with us. After initial application review, interviews will be part of the final decision making process and preference will be given to those individuals who have done an externship or on-site visit. All application materials and questions can be directed to Dr. Julia Wilkinson, Julia.wilkinson@tufts.edu.
