POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Your role in the University Writing Program is vital to departmental success. Since the first contact most students have with the department is through your class, you can do much to foster a positive attitude toward English courses and to recruit English majors and generate student interest in upper-level English courses as you teach students to be skillful writers.

Our program is a large one, with different courses, multiple sections, and varied faculty. It is therefore important that we function with uniform policies, procedures, goals, and objectives. It is, however, equally important that we encourage diverse teaching methods. This document both promotes responsibility to the department and allows for varying teaching styles.

We suggest that you review these policies and procedures each year and consider including sections such as the sample policy statements on your syllabus.

Please alert the University Writing Program Office to any errors you find on this webpage.
