Semester Assessment--English
2000 |
I. Administrative Details for the Spring 2009
Assessment
- Finals. You should not give a final on
Monday during finals week. English 1001 and 2000 teachers
are exempted from the University Finals requirement.
- Grades. You will receive a score
between 2-12 for each student. This score represents the
combined score of two readers. You should use that score as
a guideline for awarding a final grade (a student who gets a
2 through 5 should rarely, if ever, receive an A).
- Scoring.
- Monday 8:30-12:30: Calibrating and scoring
- Tuesday 8:30-12:30: Scoring
- Tuesday 8:30-???: Finish scoring

II. Timeline for Assessment
- Registration. If you are not teaching
in a media classroom, reserve a computer classroom in the
week before deadweek--the last week of classes. You will use
that time to show students how to register for the online
assessment.
- Deadweek (last week of classes): Cancel
your classes for this week. Students will be working online.
- Friday, April 24 Articles to read will be
available.
- Monday, April 27: Writing instructions will be
available.
- Thursday, April 30: Students need to turn essays in
electronically by 12 P.M. CST.
- Score Reports: You will receive reports
of student scores by Thursday in the late afternoon. You
will receive individual scores for students in each section,
a mean score for each section, the mean score for all
students, and a graph depicting the distribution of scores
in your section. You should use the mean and distribution to
guide your grading. If your students score higher than
average, we would expect a higher than average grade
distribution. If your students score lower than average, we
would expect a lower than average distribution.
