Counselors
Tiger’s DEN staff is made up of all students, either in college or entering college. The hiring process is very competitive and selective, with all candidates going through a multi-stage interview and group dynamic process. Once hired, the staff is required to attend an intensive training and receive ongoing feedback and evaluation during their employment. Additionally, they are all trained in CPR/First Aid/AED for adult and child and have had criminal and sex offender background checks.
Many of the staff are pursuing education degrees or plan to work with children in their career; however, they are all united by a passion for children and for camp! A large majority of the staff has had previous camp counselor experience, either at Tiger’s DEN or at other summer residential camps, and some even attended Tiger’s DEN when they were younger.
The objective of counselor staff training is to teach counselors to approach camp with a passion for discovery combined with the FISH Philosophy. The FISH Philosophy is made up of four simple things: Be There, Play, Make Their Day, and Choose Your Attitude. The philosophy is embodied by our staff fully engaging in every moment, promoting fun in activities by choosing to play, going out of their way to make every participant’s day, and actively choosing their attitudes. Tiger’s DEN strives to employ counselors who push themselves to consistently embody this philosophy in order to create the most welcoming atmosphere possible.
