Estate of George Rodrigue Releases Posthumous “Blue Dog” Print to Benefit LSU School of Music, George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts

‘Take Five’ to be unveiled at The Cook Hotel on Friday, Sept. 4 at private reception

BATON ROUGE – On Thursday, Sept. 4 the Estate of George Rodrigue will unveil a new posthumous print, titled “Take Five,” that combines the iconic Blue Dog, the lush landscape of Louisiana and rich musical heritage of the LSU School of Music.

 

The silkscreen was designed by George Rodrigue before his passing on Dec. 14, 2013 and has been printed posthumously in a limited numbered edition of 950.

 

The print will be unveiled at a private reception at the Cook Hotel, 3848 W. Lakeshore Dr., from 5-7 p.m. After the unveiling, the print will be available for purchase at www.GeorgeRodrigue.com and in Rodrigue Studio locations in New Orleans’ French Quarter, Lafayette and Carmel, Calif. The print is offered at a price of $500 with all proceeds supporting the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts and the LSU School of Music.

 

“We are so excited to unveil this print that Dad designed,” said Jacques Rodrigue, executive director of the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. “Dad was a huge supporter of the arts and education, and we are so proud to partner with the LSU School of Music to continue his legacy.”

 

The reception, generously underwritten by Deborah Dunlevy Todd, will offer a first look at Take Five and bring together fans of Rodrigue’s art and supporters of the LSU School of Music, part of the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts. Guests will enjoy Blue Dog inspired cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and music by LSU School of Music Ph.D. student Harold Mims who will perform on the Rodrigue Steinway piano.

 

“The college is honored to partner with the Rodrigue Foundation on this event,” said Todd Queen, dean of the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts.

 

Stephen David Beck, director of the School of Music noted that both organizations “share a vision for the importance of arts in education and creativity in our everyday lives.”

 

The Estate of George Rodrigue created a proprietary ink to stamp on editions of prints released by the Rodrigue Estate. The one-of-a-kind ink formula includes several security measures that guarantee the authenticity of Rodrigue Estate editions. The stamp measures approximately 1.5 x 3 inches and is screened directly onto prints issued by the Rodrigue Estate. This signature ink reacts uniquely to differing wavelengths of light.
