MEDIA ADVISORY: LSU to Conduct Campus Emergency Drill Today

05/20/2014 11:29 AM

BATON ROUGE – Later today, beginning at 6 p.m., LSU will conduct a full-scale campus emergency exercise in conjunction with public safety agencies and community partners including LSU Police, LSU Emergency Operations, Baton Rouge Police, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services, Acadian Ambulance Service, Baton Rouge Fire Department, East Baton Rouge Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana Emergency Response Network, Baton Rouge General Hospital and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

The event will occur in proximity of the Quad and the university asks that the general public avoid the area and the central part of campus as much as possible that evening. The time was selected in order to avoid unnecessary inconveniences to university staff non-essential to the drill, as well as any students participating in spring intercession classes during that time.

LSU Police will close Dalrymple Drive between Infirmary Lane and the Indian Mound/Peabody Hall Lots at approximately 5:15 p.m. Persons exiting the Indian Mound/Peabody Lots will be required to turn west during the time of closure but may continue to exit throughout the event. Persons parked in the Thomas Boyd Lot will also be able to exit but will be required to turn east after the time of closure.

LSU Police requests that anyone parked in the Thomas Boyd Lot accessible from the Middleton Library service drive exit the lot prior to 5:15 p.m. When the exercise scenario begins at 6 p.m., LSU Police cannot ensure passage from the lot to Dalrymple Drive as multiple agencies will respond to the scene.
