Seventeen ROTC Cadets Commissioned on May 15

BATON ROUGE – Seventeen graduates were commissioned during the LSU Spring Commissioning Ceremony on Thursday, May 15, in the Bo Campbell Auditorium of the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
 

Maj. Gen. Stephen Fogarty, the commanding general for the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, was the guest speaker for the ceremony and U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus gave the commissioning oath of office and provided remarks.
 

Five of the graduates were from the LSU Army ROTC program, nine of the graduates were from the LSU Air Force ROTC program and three were LSU students who participated in Southern University’s Navy ROTC program.
 

The following is a list of commissionees by program and hometown:

 

LSU ARMY ROTC (5):
 

Alexandria, Va. – 2nd Lt. Zachary Vicenc Jongeman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Jongeman’s branch is infantry. His first assignment is at Fort Benning in Georgia.

 

Gonzales – 2nd Lt. Michael Shane Petty received a Bachelor of Science degree in human resource education military leadership from the College of Human Sciences & Education. Petty’s branch is adjutant general. His first assignment is Basic Officer’s Leaders Course at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.
 

Katy, Texas – 2nd Lt. Aaron Martin Vanya received a Bachelor of Arts degree in kinesiology with a concentration in human movement from the College of Human Sciences & Education. His first assignment is at Fort Lee in Virginia.
 

Madisonville – 2nd Lt. Logan Joseph Hunt received a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies with minors in professional leadership, leadership development and sociology from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. His first assignment is as an aviator with the Louisiana National Guard’s 1-244th Assault Helicopter Battalion in Hammond, La.
 

Fulshear, Texas – 2nd Lt. Alan Michael Verdin received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the College of Engineering and a minor in mathematics from the College of Science. His first assignment is at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

 

LSU Air Force ROTC (9):
 

Eunice - 2nd Lt. Daniel Allen Anding received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the College of Engineering. His first assignment is as an acquisition officer at Patrick Air Force Base in Ohio.
 

Zachary – 2nd Lt. Nanlisha Tenice Bradford commissioned as a logistic officer. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from the College of Human Sciences & Education. Her first assignment is at Anderson Air Force Base in Guam.
 

Geismar – 2nd Lt. Matthew Allen Carpenter received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. His first assignment is as a pilot at the Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi.
 

Bossier City – 2nd Lt. Jocelin Sage Heymann commissioned as an assessment acquisition officer. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the College of Engineering. Her first assignment is at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La.
 

Fort Polk – 2nd Lt. Johnjoseph Cruz Mafnas commissioned as a cyber operations officer. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in natural resource ecology and management from the College of Agriculture. His first assignment is at Fort Polk Army Readiness Training Base in Fort Polk, La.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Gerald Stephen Montgomery received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. His first assignment is as an air liaison officer at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
 

St. Francisville - 2nd Lt. Travis Winston Odom received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the College of Engineering. His first assignment is as an acquisition officer at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.
 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Nicholas Paul Ronci received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the E. J. Ourso College of Business. His first assignment is as an air liaison officer at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
 

Port Allen – 2nd Lt. Rachel Nicole Salpietra received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication from the Manship School of Mass Communication with minors in aerospace studies and Italian. Her first assignment is as a public information officer at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.     

 

Navy ROTC (3):  
 

Vancleave, Miss. – Ensign Robert C. Marshall received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the E. J. Ourso College of Business. His first assignment is as an aviator at the Naval Aviation Schools Command in Pensacola, Fla.
 

Metairie – Ensign Patrick Joseph Shine received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering. His first assignment is as a surface warfare officer on the USS Laboon (DDG 58).
 

Pensacola, Fla. – 2nd Lt. Daniel Alejandro Gonzalez commissioned in the United States Marine Corps. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in general business from the E. J. Ourso College of Business. His first assignment is at The Basic School in Quantico, Va.
