E. J. Ourso College to Launch Financial Planning Ph.D. Specialization
BATON ROUGE – The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business has announced that it will begin offering a specialization in financial planning as part of its Ph.D. in Business Administration with a major in finance. According to LSU E. J. Ourso College Dean Richard D. White Jr., the specialization has the backing of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
“This is a tremendous addition to our Ph.D. program,” White said. “We continue to work toward adding offerings for our students that will keep them at the forefront of what the demands of the marketplace will be.”
E. J. Ourso College Associate Dean Frances Lawrence, who serves as director of the college’s CFP Program, noted that the addition of this specialization will transform the college into a “powerhouse for financial planning.”
“We can truly say that we now have programs in financial planning for undergraduates, master’s students and doctoral students,” Lawrence said. “Having the support of the CFP Board is a great indicator of how well our curriculum is perceived and how well it has proven to be.”
The primary mission of the Ph.D. Program is to develop trained professionals who are qualified to instruct in a university environment and who are capable of conducting scholarly research. It is a research-oriented degree designed to prepare students to conduct original research and teach at the university level.
