LSU Accounting Department Offering Tax Update and Healthcare Seminar
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Accounting Department is offering a one-day Tax Update on Monday, Jan. 6, and a one-day Affordable Care Act Seminar on Tuesday, Jan. 7, in room 1620 of the Business Education Complex. Both seminars will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The speaker, James Hasselback, is retired from Florida State University and presents continuing education courses for practicing accountants throughout the U.S.
The Tax Update event is a dynamic seminar that provides accountants with an update of current federal tax developments affecting tax returns for the coming season. The seminar principally focuses on new and pending legislation, IRS interpretations and recent court decisions on tax laws. A must for tax practitioners, the course emphasizes preparing the latest year’s income tax returns and gives hints that reduce taxes through effective planning. This practical, hands-on approach to tax preparation and planning includes up-to-the-minute coverage of key tax issues that affect practitioners and their clients.
The second day will educate participants on how to navigate the Affordable Care Act. This seminar is designed for both the accountant and the tax practitioner. The five taxes or tax increases imposed by the ACA in 2013 will be covered in the seminar. It will also cover the four insurance mandates imposed by the ACA. In addition, State Health Care Exchanges will be discussed at length.
Participants may attend one or both seminars for $100 per day. Signup and additional information is available at http://www.business.lsu.edu/Accounting/Pages/2014-LSU-Tax-Seminar.aspx.
