LSU Holiday Spectacular Taking Place Tonight

12/04/2013 11:58 AM

BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Holiday Spectacular is taking place tonight, with festivities beginning at 6 p.m. in the LSU Student Union. Formerly known as Candlelight Celebration, this event is now a collaborative initiative to promote all there is to do and see at LSU during the holiday season.

Holiday Spectacular will include a number of events including Staff Senate’s 24th Annual Holiday on Campus, LSU Student Union North Lobby, from 6-8 p.m.; Holiday Performances, LSU Student Union Theater, 6:30 p.m.; Christmas Tree Lighting, LSU Memorial Tower, 7:30 p.m.; and LSU Press book signing event with Dr. David Baker, author of the new edition of “Mike the Tiger: The Roar of LSU,” from 6-8 p.m. in the Union Theater Lobby.

All events are free, and the book signing, performances and tree lighting events are open to the public.

Staff Senate’s Holiday on Campus is open to children of LSU students, faculty and staff. This event is taking place at a new location this year at the LSU Union prior to the LSU Christmas Tree Lighting. The children of LSU students, staff, and faculty will enjoy games, entertainment, refreshments and a visit from Santa.

At all Holiday Spectacular events, LSU will be accepting nonperishable food items for Feed-A-Family/Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as well as new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Free hot cocoa and coffee will be offered at the tree lighting.

Holiday Spectacular is sponsored this year by Billy Heroman’s Flowers, Gifts, and Plantscaping; Coca-Cola; CC’s Coffee House; and LSU Dining. Holiday Spectacular is presented by LSU Campus Life, LSU Auxiliary Services, LSU Dining, LSU Discover – Undergraduate Research, and LSU Staff Senate.

In addition to LSU’s Holiday Spectacular, the Barnes & Noble at LSU is hosting renowned restaurateur and James Beard Award-winning chef John Besh for a cooking demonstration and book signing event. Besh will be signing copies of his new book “Cooking From the Heart.” He will also answer questions and provide a tasting of his delicious food.
