Bucktown All-Stars to Provide Music for 2013 Business College Bash

11/13/2013 11:34 AM

BATON ROUGE – Back by popular demand, the Bucktown All-Stars will provide the bulk of the entertainment again for the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Business College Bash. As it did last year, the college will host the bash at the Business Education Complex. This year’s Business College Bash will be Saturday, Nov. 23, and will begin four hours prior to kickoff of the LSU-Texas A&M football game.

According to Richard D. White Jr., dean of the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business, the Bucktown All-Stars were a consensus pick for this fall’s alumni tailgate.

“They were great last year, and we know they’ll be great this year,” White said of the band. “Just like last year, we expect our alumni to break from their normal game day routines and come join together for free entertainment, free food and free beverages.”

Based in Metairie, La., the Bucktown All-Stars is a nine-piece rhythm and blues band self-described as “1960s classic R&B and soul, ‘70s funk and New Orleans music mixed with laughs.” In a career that has now spanned two decades and survived Hurricane Katrina, the group has appeared at every major festival in the Gulf South, including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival, Gretna Fest, Biloxi Seafood Festival and Baton Rouge’s Earth Fest. Additionally, the Bucktown All-Stars have played for several sports-related events for the New Orleans Hornets, the Sugar Bowl, the New Orleans Bowl and the New Orleans Saints, including at the post-victory Super Bowl Parade private party for the team and their families and the grand opening of Champions Square outside of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Among its numerous awards, the Bucktown All-Stars was named the winner of OffBeat magazine’s 2012 “Best Cover Band” in the state. This marked the sixth time the band has earned this honor. The band has also garnered several other honors, including winner of Gambit magazine’s reader poll, New Orleans Magazine’s “Best Local Band” (twice) and Best of Jefferson “Best Local Band” winner.

Scheduled to start four hours prior to kickoff and run for three hours, Business College Bash is a celebration that will bring together alumni, friends, faculty, staff and student organizations of the college. Business College Bash will take place at the BEC in Virginia’s Courtyard, which is located in the center of the facility. There is no charge to attend the event.
