BATON ROUGE – Jessica Lacher-Feldman joined the LSU faculty this summer as the new head of LSU Libraries Special Collections at the Hill Memorial Library.

A native of New York, Lacher-Feldman came to LSU from the University of Alabama, where she worked for 13 years as the curator of rare books and special collections and as public and outreach services coordinator at the W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library.  She is the author of the book, “Exhibits in Archives and Special Collections Libraries,” published in August 2013 by the Society of American Archivists.

Lacher-Feldman holds an undergraduate degree in French Studies and master’s degrees in history and library science, with a concentration on archives, from the University at Albany in Albany, N.Y. Her experience in archival outreach, collection management, digital collections and rare books, as well as her broad educational background, have led her to her new position as head of Special Collections.

“I am thrilled to be part of such a great team at Hill, and to have the opportunity to work with the rich historically significant collections held here at LSU,” Lacher-Feldman said. “One of my many goals is to bring new generations of scholars, students and the public to better understand and appreciate the importance of archival materials through public programming, exhibitions and fostering research and other activities within Special Collections.”

Lacher-Feldman said she is also is looking forward to building upon the collections, working with faculty, students, staff, donors and the community in new and creative ways.
