LSU Brings in One of Its Largest Freshman Classes, Overall Enrollment at 29,865
BATON ROUGE – Once again, LSU has brought in one of the largest freshman classes in the university’s history. LSU’s fall 2013 freshman class is composed of 5,501 students, making it the third largest since the university implemented admission standards in 1988.
“We are pleased to welcome 5,501 new freshmen to campus this fall,” said LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander. “It is a testament to the hard work of our recruiters and the staff in the Office of Enrollment Management that we welcome this stellar freshman class.”
Alexander added that now that the students are on campus, the most important thing for them to do is to finish what they started.
“We provide a constant reminder to our students that graduation begins today,” he said. “Each and every day, we want our students to know that everything they do at LSU is a step toward the ultimate goal of earning their degree.”
The 5,501 new freshmen enrolled ranks only behind the 5,725 new freshmen enrolled in 2012 and the 5,700 new freshmen enrolled in 2004 as the largest entering classes at LSU.
LSU’s overall enrollment stands at 29,865, a 1 percent increase from 2012, when enrollment figures recorded 29,549 students. This year’s enrollment includes 128 students enrolled in the new LSU Online program. LSU’s overall enrollment is the highest it’s been since 2005.
“LSU continues to recruit high quality students, and we will do everything we can to provide them with the education and opportunities they deserve,” said LSU Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Stuart Bell. “We thank our faculty, staff and students for continuing to make LSU one of the top places in the nation to receive an education.
LSU’s enrollment numbers became final on the 14th day of class, which was Sept. 13. The full 2013 enrollment report will be available on LSU’s Office of Budget and Planning’s website at http://www.bgtplan.lsu.edu/Student%20Data%20Reports/index_14dayenrrpt.htm.
