LSU Continuing Education Expanding Course Selection for Northshore Location

09/05/2013 03:19 PM

BATON ROUGE – In response to local interest, LSU Continuing Education is expanding its course selection at its Northshore location. The Certified Occupational Safety Specialist, or COSS, program will now be offered at the Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell Sept. 9-13.

The COSS program trains workers to be responsible for the health and safety of their workplace. Participants learn to ensure that their business is following the applicable safety regulations and training requirements. They learn to coordinate the implementation of a safety plan and provide recommendations for the maintenance and improvement of workplace safety.

In addition to the COSS program, LSU Continuing Education is offering some of its most popular professional development courses. These include Public Speaking: Personal & Professional, Oct. 1; Essentials of Project Management, Nov. 13-14; Fundamentals of Supervision, Nov. 18-20; and Successful Grant Writing, Dec. 3-4.

“After more than two years of visiting with business and industry organizations in the New Orleans area, we found that most wanted to see courses in the greater New Orleans and Northshore area, so we organized a set of course offerings in Slidell,” said Program Director Lisa Verma. “The three courses we offered in the spring were well received, so we decided to offer five courses this fall.”

Essentials of Project Management teaches managers, analysts and human resource professionals practical skills they can use immediately to organize their projects and improve productivity.

Fundamentals of Supervision delivers basic, practical training for supervisors, managers, business professionals and team leaders in a three-day seminar format. Participants learn how to build effective teams, develop their staff, give effective feedback, resolve conflicts, and more.

Successful Grant Writing is a course designed to teach grant writers the essentials of researching, writing, obtaining and maintaining grants.
