BATON ROUGE –The LSU Greek community reached a fundraising milestone of $1 million raised during its annual Greek Week for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge, since the partnership between the two organizations began in 2004.

This year’s Greek Week, the Greek Board of Directors’ philanthropic event, started Saturday, April 13, and runs through Saturday, April 20. The week consists of an eight-day blitz build of two homes Elvin Drive for deserving families in the Baton Rouge area.

Members of the Greek community will work alongside a volunteer construction team to build the houses’ structures and landscapes. In 2012, more than 1,000 members of the Greek community signed up to volunteer their time during Greek Week.

“It is amazing to see the impact the LSU Greek community can make with two Baton Rouge families in just one week,” said Jonathan Sanders, associate director of Greek Life. “This fundraising milestone is very special to us because we can see how hard the students have worked over the last nine years.”

The Greek community works together to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity through its annual letter-writing campaign and sponsorships. Members of Greek organizations address letters to friends and family requesting donations for Habitat. This year, the Greek Board of Directors set a goal to raise $150,000, which has been surpassed by more than $3,000 to date. Donations can be made online through the LSU Greek Life website fundraising page.
