LSU Symphony Orchestra, Choral Ensemble Perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at April 26 Union Theater Performance
BATON ROUGE – As the LSU School of Music’s Union Theater Series concludes its Beethoven Festival, the LSU Symphony Orchestra and LSU Choral Ensemble will fill the LSU Union Theater stage for a monumental performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 on Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m.
The orchestra will be conducted by Carlos Riazuelo, LSU's director of orchestral studies. Featured soloists will include LSU faculty members Loraine Sims, Lori Bade and Dennis Jesse.
The choral ensemble will include members of the A Cappella Choir, Schola Cantorum, the LSU Men's Chorus and the LSU Women's Chorus.
The program also includes a performance of “Sonata for Trumpet and Strings” by Giuseppe Torelli, with LSU Professor of Trumpet James West as the featued soloist, celebrating his 35th year teaching at the LSU School of Music.
Rounding out the concert will be a performance of “Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra” by Ney Rosauro, with featured soloist Gustavo Miranda, the first-prize winner of this year’s LSU School of Music Concerto Competition. This piece will be conducted by graduate student Alejandro Larumbe.
