LSU Police to Host SEC Schools, Public Safety Conference

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Police Department will host emergency personnel from Southeastern Conference universities this week for the third annual SEC Police Chief and Emergency Manager Conference.  
 

Beginning on Tuesday, March 26, and ending on Friday, March 29, this event brings together 60 law enforcement administrators and emergency management professionals from all 14 of the SEC schools to share their experiences and best practices.  The conference is being held on the LSU campus.  The two previous conferences were held by the University of Tennessee in 2011 and the University of South Carolina in 2012.
 

The conference includes roundtable discussions and presentations from representatives of LSU Police, Emergency Management and Athletics.  Presentations will also be made by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security, the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, Penn State University, Texas A&M University, and Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive.  
 

Conference highlights include discussion of bomb threat action plans, campus evacuation planning, football event security operations, managing major media events, federal support programs for campus public safety agencies and roundtable discussions for all participants.  Separate breakout sessions for emergency managers and police chiefs will address topics including crisis communications, protective action planning and more.
 

The SEC is composed of the University of Alabama, the University of Arkansas, Auburn University, the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, the University of Kentucky, Louisiana State University, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, the University of Missouri, the University of South Carolina, the University of Tennessee, Texas A&M University, and Vanderbilt University.
