LSU Student Dietetic Association Hosting Annual Spice Drive Through March 31

03/05/2013 01:46 PM

BATON ROUGE – As March is National Nutrition Month, the Student Dietetic Association at LSU, or SDA, is again hosting its annual spice drive, benefitting the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, through March 31.

Those looking to donate are asked to please donate salt-free dried herbs and spices for distribution to the community. Donated spices will go to low-income individuals, who have a tendency to show a higher prevalence of chronic diseases that would be helped with a low-sodium diet.

Food bank donation barrel locations include the LSU Student Union, Middleton Library, the Human Ecology Building, Knapp Hall and at The Fresh Market, located at 10555 Perkins Road.

SDA will also offer a National Nutrition Month table in Free Speech Alley on Wednesday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the table, visitors can learn nutrition facts and take part in a quiz to win a prize.

On March 23, SDA will also host a spice drive collection event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, located at 5255 Highland Road.

For more information on the SDA Spice Drive, contact LSU Alumni Professor Carol O’Neil at 225-578-1631 or email coneil1@lsu.edu.
