LSU College of Art & Design Distinguished Lecture Series Presents Artist Peter Shire Jan. 30

01/16/2013 10:19 AM

BATON ROUGE – The LSU College of Art & Design’s Distinguished Lecture Series will present a lecture by artist Peter Shire on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m. in Room 103 of the Design Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Shire graduated from the famous Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. His work crosses over the boundaries between sculpture, ceramics, furniture and interior design. In addition to numerous group shows, his works are in many public collections and museums in the U.S. and abroad. One of the original members of the Milan-based Memphis group, Shire’s work is defined by an unexpected visual dialogue between forms and surfaces and between technology and aesthetics. Shire was born in Echo Park district of Los Angeles, where he currently lives and works. Additional information on Shire is available on the web at http://petershirestudio.com.

In addition to Shire’s lecture, numerous works of his collection will be featured as part of the “Peter Shire: One Retrospective – Three Venues” event, taking place between three of LSU’s visual art galleries. Exhibitions will be on display in the LSU Museum of Art from Jan. 31-April 14, in the LSU School of Art Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. Exhibition Gallery from January 31- March 24 and in the LSU Union Art Gallery from Feb. 3-24. A joint opening reception will be held for the LSU Museum of Art and Glassell Gallery exhibits on Thursday, Jan. 31, from 6-8 p.m., while an opening reception for the Union Art Gallery exhibit will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 2-4 p.m.

This presentation of the LSU College of Art & Design Distinguished Lecture Series is sponsored by a generous endowment by the Nadine Carter Russell Chair and the LSU Department of Interior Design. Professional American Institute of Architects and American Society of Landscape Architects education credit is available for this lecture. A recording of the lecture will be available for viewing at http://coadmediasite.lsu.edu/mediasite/Catalog/catalogs/default.aspx.
