LSU’s NCBRT to Host National Preparedness Conference

BATON ROUGE – The National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, or NCBRT, at LSU will host its Annual Instructor Meeting Dec. 4-5 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capital Center, located at 201 Lafayette St. in Baton Rouge.
 

The conference will feature keynote speakers Emmet and Toni Stephenson, business leaders and philanthropists whose donation led to the creation of the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute and the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute at LSU.
 

Events will also include presentations by Brian Van Brunt, behavioral expert and author of “Ending Campus Violence: New Approaches to Prevention,” and John Sorensen, a research staff member at Oak Ridge National Laboratory who has published extensively on response to emergency warnings, risk communications, organizational effectiveness in disasters, emergency evacuation, decontamination and protective actions for chemical emergencies.
 

The media are invited to the Stephensons’ presentation on Dec. 4 from 8:45-9:45 a.m., Van Brunt’s presentation Dec. 5 from 10-11 a.m. and Sorensen’s presentation Dec. 5 from 4-5 p.m. Speakers will be available for interviews immediately following the presentations. All media personnel must check in with NCBRT in the Paramount Room.
 

NCBRT at LSU provides training to emergency responders throughout the U.S. NCBRT is part of the Stephenson National Center for Security Research and Training, as well as the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, recognized as the principle vehicle through which the National Training and Education Division identifies, develops, tests and delivers training to federal, state, local and tribal emergency responders. The main source of funding for the center is through a cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. More information about NCBRT can be found at www.ncbrt.lsu.edu.
