BATON ROUGE – Gary Sanger, William H. Wright Jr. Endowed Chair for Financial Services and C.C. “Cliff” Cameron Professor in Finances, along with LSU Ph.D. alumnus Fan Chen and LSU Professor Emeritus Myron Slovin, were recently awarded the 2012 SFA Best Paper in Investments from the Southern Finance Association. The paper, “Public Versus Private and Focused Versus Conglomerate Mutual Fund Companies,” examines whether organizational and ownership structures of U.S. registered investment companies affect fund performance and operational efficiency, according to its abstract.

“It is a great honor for my co-authors and me to receive this award from the Southern Finance Association,” Sanger said. “It represents a lot of hard work begun when we were all colleagues at LSU.”

Sanger was recognized for this achievement at SFA’s annual meeting in Charleston, S.C.

According to SFA’s website, the “purpose of this association is to foster the development of scientific and literary works in finance and to improve the teaching of finance. It also strives to improve communication among various groups interested in finance, such as government, business, and academic institutions.”
