LSU Students Make Strong Showing at CEO National Conference
BATON ROUGE – Entrepreneurial-minded LSU students brought home big titles from the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization National Conference in Chicago, held Nov. 1-3.
A team composed of five members of the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute Entrepreneurship, or SEI, Fellows won second place in the CEO Startup Simulation Challenge. Team members were Ali Burmester, Stephanie Chaney, Will Chadwick, Lauren Dixon and Joey Ham. This is the second consecutive year a group of LSU students has taken home second place in the global competition.
Brandi Thomas, also an SEI Fellow, came in second out of more than 120 competitors in the National Elevator Pitch Competition. Thomas won the Elevator Pitch Competition at LSU in October to secure her place in the national competition.
Additionally, the title of Student Entrepreneur of the Year went to Kenny Nguyen, a graduate of the Louisiana Business & Technology Center’s Student Incubator. Nguyen and SEI Fellows Alumna Farah Gheith were also selected to lecture at the conference.
According to SEI Associate Director Jarett Rodriguez, the presence of LSU was “laced throughout the conference.”
“We are very proud of our fellows and members of the CEO chapter at LSU,” Rodriguez said. “They represented the university’s commitment to entrepreneurship, and we look forward to celebrating with them as they continue in their entrepreneurial pursuits. Not only did they win awards but they also led discussions at the national conference.”
The LSU chapter of CEO is housed in the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute. As one of CEO’s 240 international chapters, it welcomes students from any discipline and provides them with a network of entrepreneurial-minded students around the world.
The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, utilizes the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Fellows Program, LSU Executive Education, Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, and the Distinguished Entrepreneur Speaker Series to address the challenges of entrepreneurship and to positively impact students, the regional economy, the state of Louisiana and the nation.
