LSU Curriculum Theory Project to Present “Stories Lived, Stories Told: Reflections of Curriculum Theory Scholars” Panel Nov. 6

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Curriculum Theory Project, or CTP, in the School of Education will present “Stories Lived, Stories Told: Reflections of Curriculum Theory Scholars” on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in 225 Peabody Hall.

 

The panel will feature curriculum scholars Janet Miller, Molly Quinn, Ann G. Winfield and Reta Ugena Whitlock, who are experts renowned in the fields of educational philosophy and curriculum theory. They will discuss the implications of curriculum theory for addressing current educational issues and reform.

 

Miller, professor of English education and program coordinator at Columbia University’s Teachers College, is noted for her work in feminist, autobiographical work that addresses the live experiences of teachers.

 

Quinn, associate professor of Education at Teachers College, works with teachers in New York City in a social justice program.

 

Winfield, associate professor of education at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. conducts research on the relationship between the eugenics movement and the contemporary standardized testing movement.

 

Whitlock, associate professor of education and gender studies coordinator at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga., specializes in Southern curriculum studies with a focus on the relationship between place, autobiography and teacher identity.

 

Quinn and Whitlock are LSU alumni. Quinn earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction in 1997 from LSU. Whitlock earned her doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction in 2005.

 

Participants are welcome to an open house for the new LSU CTP offices, located in 121 Peabody Hall, immediately following the Curriculum Scholars Panel.

 

LSU CTP is comprised of internationally recognized scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds whose primary goals are to research the role education plays in a democratic society, participate in the future of curriculum theory nationally and internationally, enhance LSU’s graduate program of curriculum and instruction, and serve as a leader in educational thought. CTP is a program within the LSU School of Education.

 

The School of Education is one of six schools realigned to form the new LSU College of Human Sciences & Education, joining the School of Human Resource Education and Workforce Development, the School of Kinesiology, the School of Library and Information Science, the School of Social Work, and the University Laboratory School.
