LSU Tennis Club Honored by State, National Organizations
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Tennis Club was acknowledged this week by the Louisiana Tennis Association, or LTA, and the United States Tennis Association, or USTA, as the 2012 Tennis on-Campus Club of the Year.
This award is given to the club team that has made significant contributions to the USTA/LA Tennis on Campus Program. In addition, current club president Alex Braud was named the 2012 Tennis on Campus Leader of the Year for his work with the USTA/LA Tennis on Campus program through the LSU Club Tennis team.
“It’s an honor for our club to be recognized for the work and commitment we’ve shown to improving tennis on the LSU campus,” said Braud. “I can’t take all the credit because a major reason for us to receive both of these awards is due to the work our past president, Nick Lucidi, did for the club.”
Lucidi, a recent graduate, was involved in LSU Club Tennis leadership for more than three years.
“We know that we can still do so much more as a club and this is encouraging to know we are headed in the right direction,” said Braud.
The LSU Tennis Club currently has more than 40 active student members and is working hard to continue its recent success, which included an appearance at the USTA Tennis on Campus National Championship tournament this past April in Cary, N.C. This fall, the club has traveled to tournaments in Austin, Texas, and Tallahassee, Fla., and have several more competitions scheduled for the upcoming months.
The LSU Tennis Club is a part of the LSU Department of University Recreation, or UREC, Sport Club Program that supports 14 active sport clubs through various leadership development programs, funding, and activity spaces.
