Baton Rouge Chapter of Folds of Honor Foundation Announces 2012 Distinguished Military Honor Award Winner

10/10/2012 03:36 PM

BATON ROUGE – In September, the Folds of Honor Foundation proudly announced that Capt. William T. Conger, a professor of military science in LSU’s ROTC program, was named the winner of the 2012 Distinguished Military Honor Award, which is presented annually to a Louisiana military member or veteran who supports the betterment and welfare of other military members, veterans and/or their community.

The Distinguished Military Honor Award honors a life of service to the state and country and is awarded in memory of one of Louisiana’s fallen military heroes, Staff Sgt. William Austin Daniel.

In addition to his duties as a professor at LSU, Conger currently serves as the commanding officer for Headquarters and Headquarters Company in the Louisiana National Guard. Highlights of his esteemed military career include serving in the U.S. Army Infantry in South Korea and as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne serving in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

After his enlistment was completed, he reenlisted in the Army National Guard, where he has served in various leadership positions over the past 20 years. While Conger’s military awards, decorations and honors are impressive and numerous, his volunteerism and service work make him a deserving recipient of this year’s honor. He is an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders, Nation of Patriots and works with Veterans Group Homes around the state to let America’s heroes know they are not forgotten.

Conger’s work outside of his family and the Army is to ensure that those who have served this nation will forever be remembered, by name, for their great act of selflessness in service to their country.

Conger will be recognized and honored at the Annual Folds of Honor Patriot Awards Ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 21. In addition, he will be awarded a special commissioned patriotic painting by renowned artist Tony Bernard, which has been donated by Daniel’s family.
