LSU to Host Celebration Day for Safe Routes Participants at Buchanan Elementary School
BATON ROUGE – The School of Kinesiology in the LSU College of Human Sciences & Education will host a Safe Routes to Schools’ Walk to School Day Celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 2-3 p.m., at Buchanan Elementary School, located at 408 East Polk Street in Baton Rouge.
This grant-funded program is designed to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety. The school children have been working all semester, walking with pedometers and tracking their activity on walking calendars. They have gathered in community and parent nights and have had pedestrian safety and pedometer lessons. Now, they will receive the incentive prizes they have been working towards in the pedometer challenge.
LSU School of Kinesiology students and faculty will lead the assembly by delivering healthy messages, congratulating the children individually and by class, and providing them with their prizes, which may include T-shirts, backpacks, sports bottles, sweatshirts, pedometers and more. Parents and the neighborhood community are also invited.
