10/09/2012 02:13 PM

BATON ROUGE – The LSU African American Cultural Center will host its sixth annual Multicultural Student Leadership Conference, or MSLC, on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the LSU Student Union.

The conference is free and open to all LSU undergraduate and graduate students. It is the only leadership conference on campus that focuses on various components of diversity while incorporating leadership competency skill sets. Students from Southern University and Baton Rouge Community College are also welcome to attend.

During the conference, participants will be able to select from various engaging and interactive workshops to attend that will not only enhance their leadership skills but that will also challenge their awareness in reference to a variety of areas of diversity.

Specialized conference tracks and session topics include race and ethnicity; gender and sexuality; women in leadership; privilege and socioeconomic status; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questing, or LGBTQ, alliances and allies; student-athlete leaders; spirituality and religion; and much more.

The second half of the conference will feature a keynote address by Alexandra Chung Rouse. Rouse is an LSU alumna and LSU Honors College graduate. She currently serves as the director of alumni affairs at Teach for American in Baton Rouge. Rouse is dedicated to supporting and assisting alumni of the Teach for America Program as they continue to work towards ending educational inequality across the nation.

MSLC is co-sponsored by the LSU Office of Multicultural Affairs; Student Government, through the Programming Support Initiatives Fund, or PSIF; Residential Life; and the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.

Students interested in attending MSLC may register online at www.lsu.edu/aacc. Conference participants will receive complimentary breakfast and lunch, a conference T-shirt and a commemorative booklet.
