BATON ROUGE – LSU’s College of Engineering announced the promotion of Heather Herman to the new director of Strategic Partnerships position to provide leadership on the development, implementation and monitoring of the college’s five-year strategic plan, “Improving Lives. Transforming Louisiana. Changing the World.”

“The College of Engineering is committed to building beneficial partnerships with industry and government to develop a stronger Louisiana. We are pleased that Heather Herman will serve in this role to strengthen our strategic partnerships around the state,” said Rick Koubek, dean, LSU College of Engineering.

In her new role, Herman will serve as the principal strategic advisor to the dean and the academic and operations leadership teams. She will also be the primary contact with university-level units on behalf of the college in relation to strategic initiatives. Herman will play a key role in promoting the strategic vision of the college in all aspects of external relations, including alumni/donor engagement, community outreach, and government and industry relations.

Herman received her Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication from LSU in 2000. Prior to her role as strategic coordinator in the College of Engineering, she worked at the Manship School of Mass Communication as a program coordinator in the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs.

“I am honored to serve LSU’s College of Engineering in this new role,” Herman said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with our constituencies to foster partnerships dedicated to innovation in education, excellence in transformational research and responsiveness to the state’s economic development initiatives as defined in our five-year strategic plan.”

A Texas native, Herman’s community involvement includes service on the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition Board of Directors, Boys Hope Girls Hope Baton Rouge and the Junior League of Baton Rouge. She is also a Baton Rouge Area Chamber “Leadership Baton Rouge” alumna.

The LSU College of Engineering’s five-year strategic plan was created in 2010 to enhance the college’s high-quality program and share with the state, the country and the world the unique value of an “LSU Engineer.” This plan supports congruent goals and drivers in conjunction with LSU’s Flagship Agenda 2020, improving research and educational enterprise to bring LSU to a new level of excellence. In addition, the College of Engineering works to be an example of how higher education can partner with industry, promote economic growth and create a better environment for the future.
