09/13/2012 02:54 PM

BATON ROUGE – The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business’ undergraduate program jumped nine spots overall and seven spots among public institutions in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2013” rankings. U.S News & World Report ranked the college’s undergraduate program 42nd among public institutions and 72nd overall.

E. J. Ourso College Dean Richard D. White Jr. called the jump “expected,” and sees this as the first of a trend in rising rankings.

“Every day our students, faculty and staff strive for excellence,” White said. “The rankings are a result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people.”

According to U.S. News & World Report’s website, 353 business schools were ranked this year. The E. J. Ourso College’s peer assessment was 3.0 for the 2013 rankings, compared to 2.9 last year. Undergrad business programs were ranked solely on a peer assessment survey conducted in spring 2012, and those schools appearing in the rankings have to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Other Louisiana schools that appeared in the 2013 overall rankings were Tulane University (40), Loyola University (166), Louisiana Tech University (233), the University of New Orleans (199), the University of Louisiana-Lafayette (267), the University of Louisiana-Monroe (353) and LSU-Shreveport (309).
