LSU College of Art & Design’s Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture Students, Faculty, Alumni Recognized in 2012 American Society of Landscape Architects Awards

BATON ROUGE – LSU College of Art & Design students, faculty and staff from the top-ranked Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture scored significant recognition in the 2012 awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects, or ASLA, announced in late August.

 

Those honored include 2012 Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, or BLA, recipients Joshua Brooks and Chad Caletka, who each won Honor Awards for their Capstone projects, under the direction of the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture Interim Director and Professor Van Cox and Associate Professor Lake Douglas. Brooks won in the Analysis and Planning category for “Microcosm of America,” and Caletka was recognized in the General Design category for “ReWilding City Park.”  

 

Graduate students from the 2012 Master’s class, through the School’s Research Methods class under direction of Douglas, submitted more than 50 entries for “What’s Out There,” an online data base of the Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, D.C., that won an Honor Award in Communications.
Associate professors Brad Cantrell and Wes Michaels were recognized with an Award of Excellence in the Communications category for their recently published book, “Digital Drawing for Landscape Architecture: Contemporary Techniques and tools for Digital Representation in Site Design.”  

 

Alumni recipients of recognition include Jeffrey Carbo Associates of Alexandria, Louisiana, (Jeff Carbo, BLA, ’85; Mike Lanaux, BLA ’94), together with MESA of Houston, Texas (Tary Arterburn, BLA ’79), recognized with an Honor Award in the General Design category for “Shangri La Botanical Garden in Orange, Texas,” where Douglas (BLA ’72) served as arts consultant on the project. The Office of James Burnett of Solana Beach, Calif. (James Burnett, BLA ’83) received an Honor award for “Sunnyland Center & Gardens” in Rancho Mirage, Calif.; and Reed Hilderbrand LLC of Watertown, Massachusetts (Doug Reed, BLA ’78), won an Honor Award for “Reordering an Old Quarry” in Guilford, Conn.
