Twenty ROTC Cadets Commissioned on May 17

BATON ROUGE – Twenty graduates were commissioned during the LSU Spring Commissioning Ceremony on Thursday, May 17, in the Bo Campbell Auditorium at the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes. Maj. Gen. Joseph D. Brown IV, commandant, Industrial College of the Armed Forces at the National Defense University at Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C., was the guest speaker for the ceremony.

 

Eight of the graduates were from the LSU Army ROTC program, nine of the graduates were from the LSU Air Force ROTC program and three were LSU students who participated in Southern University's Navy ROTC program.

 

The following is a list of commissionees by program and hometown:

 

LSU Army ROTC (8):

 

Lake Charles – 2nd Lt. Blake Jaymes Harper received a Bachelor of General Studies degree and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Harper will train as an infantry officer with the 11th Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning, Ga.  

 

St. Martinsville – 2nd Lt. Paxton Matthew Haydel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Haydel will train as an engineering officer in at Fort Knox, Ky.

 

Pensacola, Fla. – 2nd Lt. Cherie Kay Jones received a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry with a minor in chemistry from the College of Science and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Jones will train as a chemical officer with 25th Infantry Division in at Fort Richardson, Ark.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Wesley Gabriel Jones received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences.

 

Destrehan – 2nd Lt. Cameron Marcel Laurent received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Ann-Marie Roa received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies with a concentration in the Middle East and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Roa will branch military intelligence. Her first duty station is with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Ky.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Marquinta Winding received a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from the College of Science and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Winding will serve as an adjutant general officer assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 139th Region Support Group in New Orleans.

 

Diboll, Texas – 2nd Lt. Esteban Gonzalez received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology and a minor in professional leadership from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Gonzales is assigned to the 256th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, C Company, Louisiana Army National Guard.

 

LSU Air Force ROTC (9):

 

Marrero – 2nd Lt. Kyle Patrick Allen received a Bachelor of Science degree in management from the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Allen will attend navigator training at Pensacola Air Station in Florida.

 

Denham Springs – 2nd Lt. Jason Paul Brewer received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Brewer will attend pilot training at Laughlin Air Force, Texas.

 

Surprise, Ariz. – 2nd Lt. Stephen Paul Chauvin received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the College of Science. Chauvin will attend navigator training at Pensacola Air Station in Florida.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Kori Lynn Johnson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology and a minor in history from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Johnson will train as an aircraft maintenance officer.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. Jessica Thuy-Nhi Pham received a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from the College of Science. Pham will be assigned to the LSU Air Force ROTC Program as a gold bar recruiter.

 

Alpharetta, Ga. – 2nd Lt. Kevin Jack Stuterman received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Stuterman will be assigned to Air Force Space Command at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M.

 

Baton Rouge – 2nd Lt. William Allen Beal received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from the College of Engineering. Beal will train as a developmental engineer and his first assignment is with the Air Force Material Command at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.

 

Destrahan – 2nd Lt. Joseph Dennis Clemil Mahler received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a concentration in applied/discrete math from the College of Science. Mahler will attend pilot training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

 

Springhill – 2nd Lt. Jacob Partain received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer Engineering from the College of Engineering. Partain will attend cyber training for undergraduates at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

 

Southern University Navy ROTC (3):

 

Cedar Grove, N.J. – Ensign Brittany Marie Davis received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from LSU College of Humanities & Social Sciences. As a surface warfare officer, Davis will receive additional military officer ship training on the USS Samson in San Diego.

 

Missouri, Texas – Ensign Brandon Heasley received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from LSU College of Engineering. Heasley will train as a submarine officer at the Nuclear Power School in Charleston, S.C.

 

Spanish Fort, Ala. – Ensign Ryan Matthew Volk received a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from the College of Education. Volk will train as an aviator at the Navy’s Aviation School in Pensacola, Fla.
