Peace Research Institute Oslo’s Henrik Syse to Deliver a Lecture at LSU on May 1
BATON ROUGE – On Tuesday, May 1, Senior Research Fellow at the Peace Research Institute Oslo Henrik Syse will present “The God Question Today: Philosophy Meets Revelation in the 21st Century” at 3 p.m. in the Hill Memorial Library Lecture Hall. Syse’s talk, sponsored by Eric Voegelin Institute; Department of Political Science; and ISI at LSU, is free and open to the public.
In addition to his role as senior research fellow at the Peace Research Institute Oslo, Syse is also a part-time associate professor of ethics and military affairs at the Norwegian Defense University College, as well as chief editor, with Martin L. Cook, of the Journal of Military Ethics. He was head of corporate governance for Norges Bank Investment Management, which manages Europe’s largest sovereign wealth fund, from 2005 to 2007, and he continued, until June 2009, as an advisor and consultant on social issues for NBIM. Syse has published widely in the fields of philosophy, politics and ethics. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2007, and is a much-used lecturer in Norway and abroad.
Among his recent books are “Noe å tro på,” or “Something to Believe in”; “Måtehold,” or “Moderation”; “Natural Law, Religion, and Rights”; and “Ethics of War: Classic and Contemporary Readings.”
