BATON ROUGE – The North American Board of The Institute of Internal Auditors, or IIA, has named LSU Center for Internal Auditing Director Glenn Sumners as an inaugural inductee of the American Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners. Nine members were named in all, including LSUCIA Advisory Board Member Cynthia Cooper. Sumners and the other inductees were announced March 19 at the 2012 General Audit Management Conference, which was held at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando.

“I have had the pleasure of the friendship or acquaintance of most of the inductees,” Sumners said. “It is an honor to be included with this group."

According to IIA’s website, “This is the first honor specifically designed to recognize American internal audit practitioners who have made extraordinary contributions to the internal audit profession in the United States.”

Among his many achievements, Sumners is being recognized by the North American Board for founding the country’s, and the world’s, first higher education program for internal auditing and for establishing the IIA’s first internal Audit Educational Partnership.

“American IIA members have long demonstrated the professionalism, expertise and leadership required to help set the bar for the practice internal auditing in this country,” IIA North American Board Chairman Larry Harrington was quoted as saying on IIA’s website. “We are so pleased to recognize and showcase the dedication and achievements of these exemplary practitioners by inducting them into the American Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners.”

The IIA serves more than 170,000 members worldwide, with approximately 70,000 in North America.
