Delta Zeta Sorority to Host Annual Miss LSU-USA Pageant Sunday, March 18
BATON ROUGE – The women of Delta Zeta Sorority at LSU will host their annual Miss LSU-USA pageant on Sunday, March 18, at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Theater.
Since 1998, the Sigma chapter of Delta Zeta has hosted the Miss LSU-USA pageant each spring. As a chapter, Delta Zeta prepares throughout the year for this annual event, which raises more than $40,000 each year to donate to their local and national philanthropies.
Locally, Delta Zeta supports the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation, as well as the Painted Turtle Camp, one of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps that provides children with life-threatening illnesses the opportunity for a summer camp experience.
Junior civil engineering major Christina “Fammy” Famularo was crowned Miss LSU-USA 2011 last spring.
“It was definitely a great experience,” Famularo said. ”I’ve been able to do a lot of charity work, which was one of my favorite things.”
Throughout her reign, Famularo met with legislators and university officials, as well as participated in a number of local charity events.
The Miss LSU-USA pageant features local celebrity judges and consists of interview, swimsuit and evening gown competitions, as well as an on-stage interview question for the top 10 contestants. There will also be special performances by the LSU Tiger Tenors and Tiger Girls.
Miss LSU-USA Executive Director Kristen Landry announced that this year’s pageant will feature 21 contestants representing different groups and organizations across campus.
“It helps everyone fall in love with LSU all over again,” said Famularo. “You learn a little bit about the history of LSU and how much the contestants love the university throughout the pageant and through the on-stage question.”
Tickets for the pageant are $10 and can be purchased from the Student Union Theater Box Office. For more information, contact Director of Advertising Brittany Pecue at 225-603-2821 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
