E. J. Ourso College of Business Dean Eli Jones Accepts Position as Dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at Arkansas

BATON ROUGE – Eli Jones, dean of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, is taking the position of dean at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. Jones, who has been dean of the E. J. Ourso College of Business since July 2008, will begin at Arkansas on July 1.

 

“We appreciate the leadership that Eli Jones provided to the E. J. Ourso College during his time here,” said LSU Chancellor Michael Martin. “He oversaw the fundraising efforts for and the construction of the college’s new Business Education Complex. He has been a good representative of the university, and we certainly did what we could to keep him at LSU. As both a colleague and a friend, I wish Eli and his family the very best.”

 

Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, an MBA and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. At LSU, Jones was instrumental in helping to secure the final funding needed to construct the E. J. Ourso College’s new Business Education complex, with its completion coming at the end of this semester. Prior to becoming dean at LSU, he had been at the University of Houston for 11 years and previously served as the executive director of the Program for Excellence in Selling and the founding director of the Sales Excellence Institute.

 

Widely published in major academic journals, he is also the co-author of the new Professional Edition of “Selling ASAP: Art, Science, Agility, Performance.” Jones’ research is primarily focused on issues related to the changing sales force – sales force diversity, sales force change management and sales force technology adoption and performance, salesperson motivation, and buyer-seller relationships. He is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America, Madison Who’s Who, International Who’s Who Historical Society, and has been featured in several national publications, including Sales & Marketing Management, Selling Power, Biz Ed, Business 2.0 and The New York Times.

 

Jones has received Excellence in Teaching awards on the university, national and international levels. In August 2008, he was honored with the KPMG Ph.D. Project Marketing Doctoral Students Association Award and, in March 2009, he was named a 2009 Mays Business School Outstanding Alumnus. He also was an LSU Rainmaker in 2009, honoring the top 100 faculty in research and creativity. He taught strategic selling, advanced professional selling, key accounts selling, and sales leadership at the undergraduate and MBA levels, a Ph.D. seminar on marketing strategy, and he has designed and taught corporate training courses in the United States and abroad.

 

Jones has held significant leadership positions throughout his career. Before becoming a professor, he worked in sales and sales management for three Fortune 100 companies. Positions held include key account manager, key account executive (responsible for two of the Top 25 accounts in the U.S.), zone sales planning manager (responsible for sales in three states), sales manager, and zone sales manager designate.
