LSU Grad Student Named Leadership Fellow
BATON ROUGE – The New Leaders Council, or NLC, has selected LSU College of Education graduate student Bruce Parker as a 2012 Fellow. The fellowship is given to 15 to 20 young progressive leaders in the state each year. The fellows participate in intensive training sessions aimed at promoting personal and professional development including messaging, fundraising, organizing political campaigns and career planning.
The mission of the NLC is to train and support the next generation of progressive political entrepreneurs. NLC recruits emerging leaders from outside of traditional power structures, engaging them on both local and national levels and equipping them to be civic leaders – not only for elective office, but also in their communities and workplaces.
Parker is an LSU College of Education Ph.D. student in Curriculum Theory and Women’s and Gender Studies. Parker has published in journals such as The English Journal, Democracy in Education, Theory into Practice and Curriculum Inquiry about multiculturalism and education. Parker served as an assistant editor for The Journal of Curriculum Theorizing and the assistant conference chair for the Bergamo Conference on Curriculum Theory and Classroom Practice.
