LSU Flores MBA Distinguished Speaker Series Gets Early Spring Start with Joseph Winkler

01/23/2012 01:14 PM

BATON ROUGE – The 2012 spring edition of the LSU Flores MBA Program Distinguished Speaker Series, or DSS, will begin Friday, Jan. 27, when Joseph Winkler takes center stage at the LSU Energy, Coast & Environment Building. Winkler is scheduled to speak, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also planned to appear as part of DSS this semester are Joe Alleva and Christel Slaughter.

Winkler is the chairman and chief executive officer of Complete Production Services, one of North America’s leading oilfield service providers. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1973 from LSU and joined Complete in June 2005.

Prior to the start of his tenure with Complete, Winkler served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of National Oilwell Varco Inc. He was Varco International Inc.'s president and COO before that and held a variety of management positions with Varco and its predecessors, including the position of chief financial officer of D.O.S. Ltd., a privately held provider of solids control equipment and services and coil tubing equipment to the oil and gas industry.

A member of the LSU E. J. Ourso College Dean’s Advisory Council Marketing & Public Relations Committee, Winkler appeared in the spring 2008 LSU Flores MBA Program DSS and also appeared that same year in the Executive Speaker Series of the LSU Flores MBA Alumni Association-Houston Chapter.

Alleva, LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics, will be the second speaker in the spring DSS on Friday, Feb. 10. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1975 from Lehigh University and earned his MBA from there in 1976, while serving as a graduate assistant football coach.

After serving as director of athletics at Duke University for 10 years, Alleva joined LSU in April 2008. In August 2009, the LSU Board of Supervisors named him a vice chancellor, marking the first time in school history that the director of athletics has also held a vice chancellor position. Recently, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Committee appointed Alleva to a five-year term, and LSU Athletics continues to see unprecedented success, growth and infrastructure achievements during his tenure.

Slaughter, a principal in SSA Consultants, will be the final speaker in the spring DSS on Friday, April 20. She earned a doctorate in systems management and organization design from LSU in 1979, and began her professional career as a faculty member at LSU. After seven years of teaching, Slaughter joined SSA Consultants.

Throughout her career with SSA Consultants, Slaughter has been instrumental in guiding and implementing strategic direction for hundreds of organizations, regionally and worldwide. Some of her work has included the cultural and organizational transformation of a publicly traded community bank, designing and implementing an award-winning customer service program for a large healthcare institution, developing and conducting a diversity awareness program for a multi-national chemical plant and designing integration strategies for the state of Louisiana’s multi-billion dollar coastal protection and restoration efforts.

Slaughter is a member of the LSU E. J. Ourso College Dean’s Advisory Council Louisiana Business Building Oversight Committee. She was inducted into the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction in 2009, and is an adjunct faculty member for the LSU Flores MBA Program.
