LSU Press Collection Wins Oscar Arnold Young Award for Poetry

BATON ROUGE – “The Swing Girl” by LSU Press author Katherine Soniat received the 2012 Oscar Arnold Young Award for the best book by a North Carolina poet, presented by the Poetry Council of North Carolina. “The Swing Girl” was selected from 24 submissions as the winner by poets Ron Moran and Paul Hostovsky.

Soniat will accept the award and give a reading on Poetry Day, April 14, at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C. In addition, selections from “The Swing Girl” will be included in the annual awards anthology “Bay Leaves.”

“The Swing Girl” is Soniat’s fourth poetry volume, and her first with LSU Press. She teaches at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
