12/22/2011 12:50 PM

BATON ROUGE – The National Business Incubation Association, NBIA, has informed the LSU Louisiana Business & Technology Center, or LBTC, that its application for Soft Landings International Incubator Designation has been approved. NBIA is the world’s leading organization advancing business incubation and entrepreneurship.

There are only about 40 incubators in the world with the Soft Landings International Incubator Designation, according to LSU LBTC Executive Director Charles D’Agostino.

“This is a highly scrutinized process and a vote of my NBIA peers,” D’Agostino said. “We are extremely honored that our application was approved.”

According to NBIA’s website, the NBIA Soft Landings designation “lets foreign firms know that NBIA, the world’s leading organization advancing business incubation and entrepreneurship, has identified your incubator as having specialized programs and/or facilities for helping companies break into new markets.”

The LSU LBTC is no stranger to being recognized by NBIA. Last April, D’Agostino won the NBIA President’s Award “for lifetime achievement in support of the business incubation industry.” In April 2009, the LSU LBTC was awarded the NBIA’s Incubator Innovation Award for its Business Incubator on Wheels program and, in 2005, NBIA named the LSU LBTC its Randall M. Whaley Incubator of the Year.

“This is another testament to the great work the LSU LBTC is performing,” said LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Dean Eli Jones. “They are continuing to drive Louisiana’s economy and provide our students and our citizens the means to succeed in business.”

The Louisiana Business & Technology Center, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, endeavors to enhance economic development in Louisiana through the support of existing small businesses and the development of new businesses. Established in 1988, the LBTC’s highly successful business incubator program has been honored as the National Business Incubator Association’s Incubator of the Year.
