Seven LSU Graduates to be Commissioned with ROTC Programs on Thursday, Dec. 15
BATON ROUGE – On Thursday, Dec. 15, seven LSU students projected to graduate at LSU's fall commencement will be commissioned at separate ceremonies through either the LSU Army ROTC program or the Southern University Naval ROTC program.
Four LSU students will be commissioned as second lieutenants from the LSU Army ROTC program, and three LSU students will be commissioned from Southern University's Navy ROTC program. These cadets and midshipmen will be commissioned as second lieutenants or ensigns in the U.S. Armed Services before receiving their degrees during fall commencement on Friday.
The Southern University Naval ROTC program will hold its LSU fall commissioning ceremony at 2 p.m. on the LSU Parade Ground. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Vieux Carré Room in the LSU Student Union.
The LSU Army ROTC program will hold its fall commissioning ceremony at 10 a.m. in the Dalton J. Woods Auditorium of the Energy, Coast and Environment Building. The guest speaker for the ceremony will be Lt. Col. Mary L. Marston McKeon.
McKeon assumed command of Air Force ROTC Detachment 310 at LSU in July 2010. A 1988 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, McKeon’s assignments include operational, training and joint duties stateside and overseas during peace and conflict as satellite operations crew commander at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington; space training instructor at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado; space and missile training instructor at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California; deputy for operations/range standardization and evaluation test director at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida; flight commander at Schriever AFB in Colorado; deputy chief, 50th Space Wing plans and programs office at Schriever AFB; chief, Operations Wargames Branch at Peterson AFB in Colorado; innovation and space ops requirements branch chief, air expeditionary forces branch chief and staff/legislative liaison deputy director at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany; NATO/ISAF transition and partnering plans officer in Kabul, Afghanistan; and strategic planner, joint staff deputy directorate for information and cyberspace policy/strategic effects at the Pentagon.
McKeon’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters; and Air Force Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
