11/07/2011 09:32 AM

BATON ROUGE – Student entrepreneurs will showcase their businesses and have the opportunity to network with other young professionals during Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day at LSU, on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the LSU Student Union Theater.

Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day will feature a student business exposition from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and an entrepreneurship speaker series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public. Participation in the student business exposition is limited to current students and graduates from the classes of 2010 and 2011, who currently own a business or are working on a startup.

Featured student speakers will include Daniel Gomez, founder of Solben Energy, and Catherine Cook, founder of MyYearBook.com, both of whom are young entrepreneurs who launched their companies while in school. Cook sold her company for $100 million at the age of 20, and Gomez’s biofuel company earned more than $1 million in revenue in its first year.

Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day at LSU is hosted by the LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, Entrepreneurs’ Organization, the Student Incubator Program at the LBTC and Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization in conjunction with Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week.

Registration for the student exposition and speaker series is available online at http://laentday.eventbrite.com/.

Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship week is being held Nov. 11–18, and will feature several events and speakers focusing on different aspects of entrepreneurship. More information can be found at www.brewingupideas.com.

Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day is a series of events to give early and mid-stage entrepreneurs tools to grow their businesses and create jobs in Louisiana, while situating Louisiana in the global market. Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day is organized by members of Entrepreneurs Organization, a global network of more than 8,000 business owners employing more than 1.5 million individuals in 42 countries.

The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, utilizes the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Fellows, LSU Executive Education and Social Entrepreneurship to address the challenges of entrepreneurship and to positively impact students, the regional economy, the state of Louisiana and the nation. A generous donation by LSU alumni Emmet and Toni Stephenson made the continued development of the college’s entrepreneurship institute possible.
