LSU Staff Member’s Novel Explores Historical Dracula

Alumnus Tim Rodrigue’s “Vlad Dragwlya: Son of the Dragon” available Nov. 1

BATON ROUGE – Gate 6 Publications is pleased to announce the impending release of “Vlad Dragwlya: Son of the Dragon,” which will be disseminated in print and digital versions beginning Nov. 1. This historically-based fiction novel is the first major work of Timothy E. Rodrigue to be published and recounts in frightening detail the life of 15th Century Romanian Prince Vlad III, the real-life inspiration for Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.”

 

“Dracula has been a fixture in our society for more than a century,” said Rodrigue, assistant director of alumni & external relations for the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business. “The vampire mythos is more popular than ever, propelled forward not long ago by Anne Rice’s novels and today by a multitude of series in print, on television and in film. The historical Dracula is the impetus for it all.”

 

According to Rodrigue, “Vlad Dragwlya: Son of the Dragon” provides a mature look at the driving reasons behind the mentality of a man who, by some accounts, eliminated one-fifth of his country’s population. Yet, he was also extolled by one pope as being Christianity’s greatest defender during a time when the Ottoman Empire was on the verge of overrunning Europe.

 

“Dracula was Machiavellian by nature and driven by revenge,” Rodrigue said. “He is the epitome of that doctrine, and the decisions he made throughout his life to claim and reclaim his throne illustrate that perfectly.”

The retail price for “Vlad Dragwlya: Son of the Dragon” print edition is $15. The digital edition will cost $9.99.

 

About the Author

 

Rodrigue is a Denham Springs, La., resident who was born in New Orleans. He earned his bachelor’s degree from LSU in mass communication and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in public relations from LSU as well. He previously worked as a freelance sportswriter for The Advocate and Tiger Rag magazine and as the sports editor for The Daily News in Bogalusa, La.
