LSU Wins Institutional Excellence Award for ITS Geaux WiFi Service

BATON ROUGE – LSU Information Technology Services has been recognized with an award for Institutional Excellence in Information Communications Technology for the Geaux WiFi service. The award was given during the Association for Information Communicators Technology Professionals in Higher Education, or ACUTA, 40th Annual Conference & Exhibition.

 

According to ACUTA, the award for Institutional Excellence in Information Communications Technology is the organization’s most prestigious award, recognizing information communications technology excellence and professionalism. Winners are announced at a special luncheon at the annual conference, and each is presented with an exquisite piece of crystal. In addition, winners receive two complimentary registrations for an ACUTA annual conference.

 

During this year’s conference, themed “Succeeding in the New Reality,” in category three for institutions with enrollments of more than 15,000 students, LSU was recognized for its Geaux WiFi service. This volunteer reliant outreach service was developed by Information Technology Services to assist customers in connecting their devices to LSU’s secure wireless network during the first week of classes.

 

In order to operate successfully, Geaux WiFi has engaged volunteers from across campus for the past four years and is a great example of collaboration and customer service. In addition to benefitting faculty and students, Help Desk personnel are not overwhelmed by requests for connectivity assistance thus eliminating long queues for non-wireless related support. Since the project was done entirely with volunteers in the IT campus community, there were no costs associated with providing this additional service.

 

This is the second year in a row that LSU was recognized at the ACUTA conference. In 2010, LSU received honorable mention for Institutional Excellence for the university’s GROK Online Knowledge Base, http://grok.lsu.edu/.
