BATON ROUGE – LSU Continuing Education is offering professionals the opportunity to become social media experts by holding its second session of the Social Media Specialist Certificate Program.

The program’s first course, “Social Media Essentials for Business,” runs Sept. 20-21 and will teach participants how to implement effective social media strategies.

“Social media is a revolutionary and powerful business trend,” said Victor Canada, program instructor and social media strategist of NXT Media. “By the end of this course, participants will know how to create a successful social media presence that can benefit their business or organization.”

Other courses in the certificate program include “Customizing Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for Business,” “Integrating Web Development and Graphic Design for Social Media,” “Maximizing Business Results Using Social Media” and a choice of elective.

“The social media world is rapidly changing and this session will include new material such as strategies for B2B, QR codes and Google+,” Canada said.

Earlier this year, LSU Continuing Education awarded five certificates to individuals who completed the Social Media Specialist Certificate Program.

“Social media is a new and exciting way to communicate with clients, potential clients, vendors and media outlets,” said Mindi Talley, a past participant who serves as sales/marketing manager of inoLECT, an electrical engineering firm. “You can use social media to advertise and educate people about your brand, your business or just let your opinion be heard.”

“Social Media Essentials for Business” begins Sept. 20. For more information about the certificate program, contact Lisa Graves at 225-578-3506 or LGraves@outreach.lsu.edu.
