Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium to Honor 30 Years of Industry Advancement and Leaders at Anniversary Celebration at LSU
BATON ROUGE – The Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium, or GSRMS, has announced plans to celebrate its 30th anniversary at President’s Appreciation Day on Aug. 18 at LSU.
The event will commemorate 30 years of GSRMS industry support and education while honoring past and present leaders who have contributed to the advancement of the industry. The contribution of numerous supporters who have been instrumental to the growth and steady progress of GSRMS will be recognized including its presidents; industry companies; the Center for Rotating Machinery at LSU, or CeRoM; and Michael Khonsari, Dow Chemical Endowed Chair and Professor in the LSU Department of Mechanical Engineering.
“Our 30th anniversary is an opportunity to honor those who have advanced the performance and reliability of rotating machinery,” said Alan Autin, president of GSRMS. “Our affiliation with CeRoM and Dr. Michael Khonsari, along with their commitment to research and development, allowed GSRMS to thrive for the last 30 years.”
Under the direction of Dr. Khonsari, CeRoM has developed numerous patents including a procedure and device for determining when metals under repeated stress will reach their breaking point. This discovery allows machinery wear-and-tear to be addressed proactively, which can save the oil and gas industry millions of dollars, as well as save lives.
“The mutually beneficial relationship between our two organizations continues to strengthen the entire oil and gas industry,” Khonsari said. “GSRMS is a vital link between our Center’s research and the corporations who can employ it to improve their processes, saving money and possibly lives.”
Established in 1982, GSRMS is a gathering of oil and gas professionals dedicated to educating and improving the compression and rotating machinery industry. The organization’s annual conference regularly attracts industry leaders including top executives from the oil and gas industry’s largest corporations.
The Center for Rotating Machinery focuses on interdisciplinary research and development in close collaboration with industry. By providing cutting-edge technological innovations to solve complex problems in engineering systems, it serves as an intellectual foundation to the industry with a focus on long-range development.
GSRMS is coordinated by LSU Continuing Education. LSU Continuing Education acts as a leading university provider of educational outreach and engagement to help people achieve their goals and improve their quality of life, their organizations and their communities.
