BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana State Archives, under the direction of Louisiana State Archivist Florent Hardy Jr., was recognized on April 8 by the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation with a 2011 Education Award. The nomination was submitted by Tom Schedler, Louisiana Secretary of State.

Hardy earned a doctorate from the LSU College of Education in 1974. He is a member of the college’s Peabody Society Dean’s Circle and the Peabody Society Alumni & Friends Board.

The Louisiana Trust Honor Award in Education recognizes the efforts of individuals or organizations that broaden the understanding of the importance and value of Louisiana historic preservation through educational efforts.

“Fortunately, experiences during my graduate studies in the College of Education at LSU encouraged the sharing of knowledge,” said Hardy. “I am pleased that I have such an opportunity as state archivist.”
